Spotlight on: Shura Alonso, Community Manager in Madrid

Shura and community associate, Gonzalo Gil.

We recently opened our very first Spaces in Spain, in the nation’s capital of Madrid. We thought this is a great opportunity to introduce you to the community manager; Shura Alonso.

Hi Shura, can you give a short introduction about Spaces Rio in Madrid?

Spaces Rio is the first Spaces location in Spain, so we all are very excited to be part of this big community. We have been very lucky to find such an amazing location. The 5 floors listed building was an old thermal power plant for this city, so this gives loads of character to the space. Campus Madrid powered by Google, our next-door neighbor, also generates an environment of entrepreneurship and a technological meeting point that has an impact on the whole area.

Can you tell us a little bit about what you do and how you got here?

I’ve worked for another office provider for over 7 years being part of different projects and teams. I feel now so fortunate to be part of Spaces, all the hard work has paid off now. The way we work is changing and there is no better place than Spaces to be at.

What do you look to for inspiration?

I can find inspiration in a person or a thing or place. You just need to look inside everything and take values and ideas that make the world a better place.

What are the essentials you need to do your work?

Well, I think exactly what Spaces says; I need to feel at home. I believe in Fen Shui so I need a work place that gives me good vibes, Spaces Rio is the perfect place. I also need things to be tidy, which will always help you to be very organised, key in this environment.

Are there apps, tools, or software you can’t live without?

I’m quite traditional regarding all tech tools, but I have to say I’m addicted to Instagram.

What’s your superhero skill?

Since I was little I always loved Batman, he is my favorite superhero. I know he actually doesn’t have a proper superhero skill, but I think he has the most important one: a good heart.

What’s your working music?

Mainly pop. I´m really into SIA now.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Be yourself.

What does the “community feel” mean to you?

I always love to be surrounded by people, I think people can teach you many things; you just need to know how to communicate. Just one person can bring you success.

For Spaces, coffee is very important. So now that you’ve started working at Spaces, what’s your coffee of choice?

Flat white (non dairy).

Thanks for your time, Shura. We wish you the best of luck in our first Spanish Spaces and hope the community in Madrid will be fun, inspiring and dynamic.
