Switch up your day

switch-desks

Amidst the battle for productivity, healthy living and good circulation  there’s a lasting debate about the benefits of all things moving in the place of work (switching your seat). Some stand the battle ground fighting for a change of scenery to be a productivity myth, whilst others drive it forward, utilising as many different work spaces as possible.

For the phone pacers

The office wanderers and the phone call pacers. We’re all guilty of it, and I often wonder why. Maybe it’s something to do with concentration and focus, allowing us to walk away from distractions  amongst back ground noise. Or maybe it’s an alternative from of feedback where we pace to progress. Either way, its often productive for the wanderer but the bane of life for those observing or listening to the infrequent squeak of a shoe. The alternative? Standing desks. Whilst no one expects you to squat at the edge of a standing desk, they do offer a a change in location and fixed point of concentration.

Conform to comfort

Mondays are the awkward limbo in which you would like to crack on with the week’s schedule but you’re often stuck replying to emails whilst you take the odd nibble of a croissant. For a somewhat daunting task it would be nice if you didn’t have to be glued to your desk. A comfy spot could be the answer to your mind space and also your comfort zone. Many companies are adopting chill out spaces where you can kick back. Our business club offers all and more besides. Whilst your office desk remains reserved, a change of scenery in the Business Club offers a break.

Personal preference

One of the drawbacks of working in a place where your favourite spot isn’t guaranteed is of course arriving at work 10 minutes later than usual, and finding out your primary preference is inhabited by someone else. Darn it. For those of us who admire a little order and routine, sitting in new places can cause a bit of stress and lower concentration levels. That said, you never know what relocating may offer. It could challenge your perspective and could ignite a conversation with someone who you may not usually cross paths with. Be it a a non-sensical chat that lightens up your day or the opportunity to collaborate, don’t let your usual tendencies skew what a new seat may offer.
