Stimulate your senses for better working

When you think about your senses, you are probably able to list them all. The sense of touch, smell, sight, hear and taste. But what if you are not utilizing them enough? Have you considered how your work can actually benefit from being more in tune with your senses.

sight:

The most obvious aspect that appeals to sight are colours. The right colour palette can have a direct influence on how you feel.  Think about the tasks at hand and find the perfect spot. Brighter colours (such as reds, blues and greens) are conducive to higher focus and task accuracy. Blue is associated with calm, helping you think more clearly, feel more in control and creative thinking. Warmer colours such as  yellow and orange, are stimulating colors by nature, helping people feel more alert, allowing for clear decision making and encouraging lively discussions.
Another thing that appeals to the eye is of course, natural light. Make sure that you always have a window nearby.

smell:

A fresh smelling office, is a clean office. But did you know that there are many smells that can help you feel more productive. At Spaces we even went a bit further and developed our very own signature scent that fits perfectly in any working environment. Not only is No.10 Spirit de Travail created to make you feel more productive, it’ll also make you feel comfortable and with that more relaxed.

Sound:

The effect of sound on people’s productivity is very well known. There are two types of people; people who love working with music and those who don’t.  The power of music is unmistaken. Spaces even has its own curated channels, fitting in to all parts of the day and week.  But if music is not something that  helps you focus, Spaces also offers special focus areas where it’s as quiet as a library.

Touch:

The sense of touch is closely associated with the emotion of comfort and warmth. It’s easy to say when you find a working environment nicely designed, but it’s difficult to describe why you actually feel comfortable in it.  It’s a well-known fact that natural materials like wood and textiles like the soft wool on a sofa or rug are often associated with a “warm, cozy feeling.” On the other hand, materials like metal and plastic can convey sterility and coldness and are generally not inviting.Tactile design is especially welcoming in a work place where people work a lot with technology. The juxtaposition of the materials encourages productivity.

Taste:

Nothing says a bad start of the day like stale coffee. Starting the day with a nice fresh coffee or tea, will make all the difference. This is throughout the entire day though, not just when it’s time for your daily fix. When working make sure that you eat well, healthily, but also eat consciously. So no eating at your desk while going through your emails, but enjoy every bite and be aware of your food and surroundings. If you open all your senses you’ll notice that your sandwich, salad or soup will taste a whole lot better.

Convinced now that sensory working will benefit your brain? Try out Spaces and heighten your senses, you know you want to.
