ADE x Spaces: FuckUp Nights Amsterdam

The mission of Fuckup Nights? Do not bury your failures, let them inspire you! Why not acknowledge that life sometimes doesn’t go as planned? We can learn from each other’s mistakes and open up the conversation about success and failure. Expect a night full of Fuckup stories sharing the often hilarious as well as the painful anecdotes combined good company, a very honest atmosphere, beers, and some dance moves afterward to shake things off.

Amsterdam Dance Event

We are working together with Fuckup Nights Amsterdam and Desperados to create a special ADE edition focusing on the creative music industry. From DJs and managers to club owners and festival organizers, they will all share their best Fuckup stories on stage, providing valuable lessons and insights from the world of music, dance and event management.

Tunes by Meester Moeilijk – a name that does not easily translate to English. That’s probably his biggest fuck up. But this DJ can certainly play some damn good records!

‘Fuckupreneurs’ on stage

Samuel Taselaar

This true entrepreneur started his career in the nightlife and festival scene at a young age. As the cofounder of Nomads Festival & head of marketing at Lofi (a brand new creative location in Sloterdijk) he has organised numerous festivals and club nights. And yes, he stumbles upon quite some challenges along the way. Let’s say that sometimes everything that can go wrong, actually will go wrong. During this edition of Fuckup Nights Amsterdam he will share the hard and expensive lessons learned.

Sander A.E. Petit

As being not immune to fuckups, it’s always good to know a guy like lawyer Sander A.E. Petit! Sander, founder of Petit Legal and also known as De Dance-advocaat, is specialised in intellectual property, media- and contract law for the creative industry. Sander has worked for several DJ Mag Top 100 dj’s and amongst his clients are rappers, producers, management and booking agencies, promotors, record labels, music publishers, photographers and even a really cool Insta-poet. From a young age on, he knew he wanted to be a lawyer. That worked out, but certainly not without any struggle: if it weren’t others making things difficult, it would be his own perfectionism that stood in his way. What lessons can we learn from a recovering perfectionist working in a profession in which ‘nobody makes mistakes’?

Babette Labeij

Babette Labeij is a successful entrepreneur that operates at the heart of the (Dutch) music- and pop scene. She is a singer and vocal coach – you might recognise her from coaching on popular tv shows such as Idols, X-Factor, and The Voice of Holland – and is the author of the book ‘SING! Dream. Dare. Do.’ But there is more: this busy bee is also the founder of recordlabel, management- and production agency Suberba Music and the Babette Labeij Music Academy, located in Amsterdam as well as Rotterdam. During the expansion of her academy she experienced the origin of the saying ‘Don’t combine work and friendship’ first hand…

Daniel van Drunen

As co-founder of events- and production agency Chasing the Hihat, Daniel van Drunen is no rookie in festival land. This summer he chased his dream with the new weekend festival eilân at Terschelling. With acts like Apparat, Maribou State and Antal RH, eilân was supposed to be the hit of 2019. Unfortunately four days before the event, the festival had to be canceled due to the judgment of the court. Despite the support of the municipality, province, ecologists, lawyers and many islanders, Daniel and his crew were up to the difficult task to communicate the news to enthusiastic ticket holders, artists and partners. How do you survive the worst nightmare of an event organiser?
