In the technological loop

tech-buzzwords

Big Data, Smart Data and now Dark Data. With the ambitious progression of technology comes an impressive plethora of new words and concepts being coined. It can be over-facing and daunting, similar to code, you’re basically learning a new language. What better way to stay in the know than being aware of  buzzwords.

Dark data

Amidst the data collected from consumers of the web, not all of it is useful, nor are we often aware it’s being collected. Dark data equates to information that organisations collect and store during day to day activity. This kind of data isn’t used for business optimisation or analytics though, and is often retained for the hell of it.

Artificial Intelligence

Hardly a newbie on the scene but not everyone is fully aware of AIs capabilities. The first thing that pops into most people’s heads are man eradicating robots, or Siri on your iPhone, but the progression of AI is much more than that.  Samsung invented the SmartSuit, Alexa obeys your demands and the Dutch are that much of a fan that they’re creating a world leading Article Intelligence Hub in the heart of Amsterdam. If you’re still not convinced, check out our upcoming AI event.

Modularity

In a climate in which sustainable design should be the driving force to all new innovations and inventions, it’s surprising that tech giants are forcing us into expensive relationships with our devices that mean we have to dispose of them entirely when they’re lagging. Modularity is a concept slowly merging into the scene which allows you to adapt your devices accordingly. Sadly, it’s a battle between money making and CO2 saving that may take a long time to defeat.

Digital productivity

This one kind of does what it says on the tin. However, rather than it being a manual process, programmes are in the making of how to measure user productivity for you, cutting out the leg work. Prioritising emails to rooting through your junk mail, assessing your response times or your notification frequency and totting up your mobile air-time are just a few measures monitored by DP innovation.

Digital detox

This one, although featuring last on our buzzword list, is by all means one of the most important. It’s so easy to get lost amongst the latest gadgets and processes to streamline your work preferences and your daily routine. However it’s super important to take a step back. Of course your mobile phone and your FitBit have insane capabilities, like measuring your sleeping  pattern and monitoring your health, but it’s easy to get devoured in a digital challenge that could actually be damaging to your health. Grab a book in a pretty place and remind yourself of what you’d have done before such advancements.
