Meet Tobias van den Briel

Spotlight focuses on the creative individuals that make Spaces what it is. We talk to Spaces member Tobias van den Briel, co-founder of 3pm, the sustainable mobility company, about his favourite apps and the effective method of combining work with travel.

Hi Tobias, can you tell us about your role within your company?

I am one of the founders of 3pm, the sustainable mobility company. We support other companies to travel in a more efficient and sustainable way.

What apps, tools and software can’t you live without?

Obviously, my laptop and phone are at arms length wherever I go. On the phone most of the social media apps are present and overused. I also use the 9292 app for planning my trips with public transport, Google Maps for my bike rides and the New Motion app for finding charging poles for the electric car.

What is your best time saving shortcut while working?

Combining work and travel. This means that I do most of my travelling by train because I can work on my laptop as easy as I do at a desk.

What is real work for you?

The correct answer should be that everything I do is real work; from the acquisition of new business to writing an advisory report. But, in reality, the implementation of my advice is the most rewarding and therefore for me, “real work”.

What is your favourite gadget?

It used to be my bicycle iPhone holder, so that I could ride my bike with navigation when I needed it. But I don’t have an iphone anymore… that reminds me to buy a bike holder for my new phone!

What everyday thing are you better at than everyone else?

Loving my wife, I hope.

What music do you like to listen to when working?

Most of the time no music at all, sometimes, Jazz Radio.

What book is on your nightstand at the moment?

Oh you don’t want to know. No, I don’t want you to know. Really.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

Ever? Finish school. Or at least that one got stuck in my head. But most recently it’s been the advice I received a few years ago to become a member at Spaces. I’m still loving it (no sucking up intended).

I’d love to see… Maarten Woolthuis … answer these questions next time.

Great, thanks Tobias.
